Safeguarding is often a really challenging and complex aspect to working with children and young people. As every case is different and complex it is really important to share information you have and make decisions on actions jointly and not feel alone or solely responsible. There are some downloadable documents along the course to help you with decision making around how to assess and respond to risk to try and help you navigate and feel more supported when working with complex issues.
This course aims to build your awareness around the key issues to think about when Safeguarding Children and build your confidence in knowing what your responsibilities are, and feel more equipped to know how to respond to safeguarding issues.
Length: 3 modules. Duration: 30 – 45 mins of study per module.
Your Instructor
Dr Charlotte Bolt is a clinical psychologist working within Bedfordshire Paediatrics and CAHMS, having previously worked in Bedfordshire within the Children Development Centre (CDC) and Neurodevelopmental team in CAHMS. Charlotte draws from multiple psychological models with her work, particularly Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and systemic practice.
Charlotte is passionate about making clinical psychology accessible, with a strong interest in Community Psychology and voluntary work. She has worked across many charitable organisations, including START (Students and Refugees Together), Jeremiah's Journey (Children Bereavement), The Multiple Sclerosis Society and MIND. Her work extends to Kenya, Ghana and India within orphanages, universities and schools
Charlotte also works privately and voluntarily with her therapy dog, where her clients include adults with learning difficulties or histories of trauma, and children with autism and emotional difficulties. She hopes to soon publish research into the practice and ethics of integrating dogs into psychological therapies, and she continues to develop her clinical skills training in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).
