Compassion Focused Therapy is a psychological model developed by Paul Gilbert. It draws together ideas from neuro-biological, behavioural and psychological theories, as well as Eastern philosophies, to achieve a coherent and easily understood model.
It is helpful and relevant for those working with complex needs groups as it helps to explain seemingly entrenched behavioural patterns and offers practical ways of achieving meaningful emotional and behavioural change.
The modules in this course will cover the basic theory behind CFT and explain how the ideas can be used in the day to day work of support services. Applying these ideas can enhance the wellbeing of staff and can support clients to begin to regulate their emotions, develop warmer relationships with others, and ultimately begin to achieve tangible goals.
