This training introduces you to motivational interviewing (MI), an approach that is used to help people make decisions and effect and maintain positive changes in their lives.

Motivational interviewing has been shown to be particularly effective with people struggling with dependency issues but is applicable to helping people in any situation where a significant choice is being contemplated.

Over four modules, we will guide you through the approach from beginning to end. We will be learning attitudes and techniques that have been developed to assist those suffering with the most entrenched problems and compulsive habits, to resolve the ambivalence and hesitancy they are experiencing about change, and turn their lives in a new direction.

In this first module, you’ll learn about the foundations of motivational interviewing: what the approach considers motivation to be, the spirit of motivational interviewing, active listening skills and the principles and processes of motivational interviewing.
